Elevation stems from new estimate of damages in the Chamber of Deputies

The Advocacy General of the Union (AGU) asked the Federal Court of the Federal District to increase the precautionary blocking of assets of prisoners for the coup acts of January 8 from R$ 18.5 million to R$ 20.7 million.

According to the AGU, the increase is due to the increase in the damage estimate made by the Chamber of Deputies, which increased from R$ 1.1 million to R$ 3.3 million. The value request was made within the scope of the fourth action proposed by the AGU against 42 detainees for participating in anti-democratic acts, and which will still be analyzed by the Justice.

In total, the AGU has already proposed the blocking of assets, in four actions, of 176 people arrested for having participated in the invasion and depredation of the buildings at Praça dos Três Poderes and seven companies suspected of financing the acts. At least R$ 4.3 million in vehicles of the people and companies involved have already been blocked in court.

The blockade is requested to guarantee reimbursement to the public coffers in case of final conviction of those involved. The AGU argues that all those responsible, whether financiers or predators, should be jointly and severally liable for the damage caused to public property, under the terms of the Civil Code.
