The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), confirmed this Saturday (8) that he will not join President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) entourage in China. The deputy underwent surgery to treat an umbilical hernia on Wednesday (5) and should stay away for up to 10 days.

In a note, the Vila Nova Star hospital, in São Paulo, confirmed the procedure. Lira was discharged on Thursday (6) and, according to the health institution, “is doing well”.

On the doctor’s recommendation, the deputy should remain at rest for the next ten days, “and should avoid long-term trips and strenuous activities”.

Despite Lira’s absence, Lula’s entourage on the trip to China will have the participation of several parliamentarians. Among them is the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). The team leaves for the Asian country on Tuesday (11).
