Deputy Acácio Favacho presented Bill 5141/23, which creates prevention mechanisms for the mental health of students who manifest characteristics of psychosomatic and psychopathological illnesses.

Psychosomatic illnesses are defined as emotional or psychiatric disorders that affect, directly or indirectly, the functioning of the body’s organs. Psychopathological illnesses are characterized by mental disorders that compromise the individual’s cognitive functions, such as stress, depression, anxiety and eating dysfunction.

“The inspiration for the project was the positive result of the practice of family mediation reported by the Lucimar Del Castilho State School, in Macapá. The implementation of the Psychological Assistance Center appears as an alternative in resolving these emotional conflicts within the country’s public schools”, explains the parliamentarian.

According to the project, public and private educational institutions will have to promote prevention policies aimed at mental health in the school environment through actions to encourage treatment and specialized monitoring of psychosomatic and psychopathological illnesses, in addition to adopting, in their staff, educational psychology professionals.

The proposal also defines that all services provided at the Center must be duly identified and recorded confidentially in the institution’s database. The service may take place in person or virtually.
