Acácio Favacho Project institutes fine of up to R$500,000 to suppress violence against women – News of Brazil

Federal deputy Acácio Favacho presented a bill (PL 571/2024) that establishes a mechanism to repress violence against women, with the application of a fine to the aggressor with amounts that cannot be less than R$ 500, and greater than R$ $500 thousand.
According to DataSenado Research, in partnership with the Observatory of Women against Violence (OMV), revealed that in Amapá 35% of women have suffered some type of domestic or family violence caused by men.
“Unfortunately, DataSenado research shows that our North region leads the rates of violence against women. With this in mind, I filed this project to create another mechanism in the Maria da Penha Law to also penalize the aggressor with a fine”, explains Favacho.
The project determines that the fine will be applied in accordance with the economic capacity of the aggressor and the seriousness of the infraction, with the fine being increased by 2/3 if the violence is used with the use of a firearm; a double fine applies in case of repeat offense, even if general; and new aggression occurring within 5 years, counting from full compliance with all sanctions imposed by criminal, civil and administrative authorities, is considered a recidivism.
The proposal is under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies.
