Abrajuc repudiates Lula’s decision to withdraw Brazil from the Geneva Consensus

The Brazilian Association of Conservative Jurists (Abrajuc), in a note published this Thursday (19), repudiated the government’s decision of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to withdraw Brazil from the Geneva International Consensus, which brings together countries in defense of life, women’s health, strengthening the family and the sovereignty of each nation in global politics. The agreement had been made in October 2020, in the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“Abrajuc stands for the uncompromising defense of life from conception onwards, as set out in Article 2 of the Brazilian Civil Code, which safeguards the rights of the unborn child”, said the entity in an excerpt from the note. The association also asked the Federal Government to reconsider and resume the fulfillment of “its constitutional missions”, aimed at protecting life from conception.

The signatories of the “Geneva Consensus Declaration on Promoting Women’s Health and Strengthening the Family” agreed to “reaffirm” women’s human rights as “an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of all human rights and fundamental freedoms” and the “inherent dignity and worth of the human person” They signed the commitment of “allowing women to safely go through pregnancy and childbirth and to provide couples with a greater chance of having a healthy child”.

They also state that “in no case should abortion be promoted as a method of family planning” and that “any measures or changes related to abortion in the health care system can only be determined at the national or local level in accordance with the national legislative process”. . They also point out that “there is no international right to abortion, nor any international obligation on the part of States to finance or facilitate abortion”.

In the same vein, the Pact of São José da Costa Rica, to which Brazil is a signatory, in its article 4, item 1, disciplines that every individual has the right to have his life respected from conception.

Afraid of the size of the inevitable legal and social consequences that this precedent will cause and, in order to avoid undesirable deaths of innocent and defenseless human beings who are the unborn, ABRAJUC comes, very respectfully, TO URGE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to resume the fulfillment of its missions constitutional provisions, with the objective of contributing to the protection of the lives of Brazilians since
