A strangeness in racism: only the rival player is attacked – 05/29/2023 – O Mundo É uma Bola

Racism is a crime and those who commit it must be punished, whenever and wherever it happens. Full stop.

Having said that, and in the wake of the most commented subject in the football sphere for several days now, involving striker Vinicius Junior in Spain, there is something intriguing about the racist supporter: he only verbally, explicitly attacks (generally with shouts of “monkey” and imitating of the animal), black player of the other team.

Considering the most recent episode of racial abuse against Vini Jr., which took place on the Sunday before last in Valencia x Real Madrid, what do you notice?

The Brazilian, due to the color of his skin, was in the sights of the fans of the home team, in an obviously condemnable way.

But in that same game, defending Valencia, five black players participated: the Portuguese Thierry Correia, the Dutch Justin Kluivert, the French Dimitri Foulquier, the Brazilian Samuel Lino (ex-São Bernardo) and the North American Yunus Musah.

And none of them was, as far as we know, called a “monkey”, they were never bothered by the fans who attacked Vini Jr.

It is still a strange and inconsistent behavior, as everyone is equally black, Vini Jr. and the others. You can even open a discussion to understand the reason.

Is there anyone who is “kinda racist”? In my opinion, no. Either the person is racist or he is not. And, being racist, her hatred encompasses everyone who, in the current discussion, is black.

So why are Valencia players “preserved” by their fans?

Because they wear the shirt of their favorite team, they had the approval of the board to come. Unexpectedly, they become “different” blacks.

Thus, racist fans (of Valencia, in this case, but for any other team) tolerate them. For them, it would be better if they weren’t there, but since they are there, there’s not much they can do.

I imagine an example of the racist fan’s thinking: “Monkey. He shouldn’t be here, it’s shameful. But, as he plays well sometimes, it’s bearable. Better not to make trouble with him. But the sooner he leaves, the better”.

Lino, who started playing 32 times in the current La Liga, has six goals. Kluivert, son of the great Patrick Kluivert (ex-Barcelona and participant of the 1998 World Cup, in France), scored another six.

Valuable players for a club that this season flirted with relegation – still at risk, with one game to go.

Valencia has two more black athletes in its squad: Moriba Kourouma and Mouctar Diakhaby, both from Guinea.

They, like the other five (who played more or less often in LaLiga, but at least 24 games, which shows support from the coaching staff), I have no doubt, are despised, belittled, detested by the racist Valencia fans – they are not everyone, it should be noted, and I want to believe that they are the minority.

Fans who, privately, or even openly –if those around them at the stadium think the same way–, but without making a fuss, utter curses at every slight mistake made by these players on the pitch.

With this thought in mind, I conclude that Vini Jr. he is the favorite target of racist fans due to his enormous fame: a holder of Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team, rich, successful, admired, one of the best footballers in the world. Crack.

It must cause tremendous envy to card-carrying prejudices. Bad luck for them.
