Government and MP-AM sign partnership to strengthen fight against organized crime

Technical cooperation agreement was signed by Acting Governor Tadeu de Souza and Attorney General Alberto Nascimento

Manaus (AM) — The Government of Amazonas and the Public Ministry of Amazonas (MP-AM) signed, this Thursday (20), a technical cooperation agreement for the implementation of an interprofessional team aimed at confronting organized crime. The partnership will be carried out through the State Secretariat for Public Security (SSP-AM) and the Operational Support Center for Intelligence, Investigation and Combating Organized Crime (Caocrimo).

The term was signed by the acting governor of Amazonas, Tadeu de Souza, and by the Attorney General of Justice, Alberto Nascimento, at the Government headquarters, west of Manaus. Under the agreement, which is in effect for five years, without transferring financial resources, the SSP-AM will reinforce Caocrimo’s structure with agents from the Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM).

The idea is that the members of the interprofessional team act in the operationalization of Caocrim, through which the MP-AM develops intelligence activities and combating organized crime. From the integrated action, the expectation is to strengthen the work of investigating and combating the activities of criminal organizations throughout the state.

According to the MP-AM, the technical cooperation agreement follows a national trend in which state governments and public ministries have joined forces to expand joint initiatives for the benefit of public security. Organized crime encompasses activities such as drug and human trafficking, arms smuggling, trade in human organs, counterfeiting, fraud and money laundering.
