Chamber installs MST CPIs, Americanas and bets – 05/17/2023 – Politics

The Chamber of Deputies installed this Wednesday afternoon (17) the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers), the Sports Betting Commission and the Lojas Americanas Commission.

The three commissions join the mixed CPI on January 8, which will be formed not only by federal deputies, but also by senators. The request has already been read by the President of Congress, Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), on the 26th, but this commission still does not have a date to be installed – many parties have not even indicated the members.

The MST’s CPI is considered by the opposition as the one that could bring more wear and tear to the Lula government (PT), since the landless movement is a historic ally of the PT. In addition, the commission should have a majority of parliamentarians linked to the FPA (Agribusiness Parliamentary Front), one of the strongest forces in the House.

The president will be deputy Lieutenant Colonel Zucco (Republicanos-RS). Former Minister of the Environment of the government Jair Bolsonaro Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) will be the rapporteur.

The CPI of Sports Betting gained strength in Congress with the Maximum Penalty operation, by the Public Ministry of Goiás, which investigates the possible manipulation of results of football matches, including the national Series A.

Deputies Julio Arcoverde (PP-PI) and André Figueiredo (PDT-CE) were elected, respectively, president and vice-president of the CPI. The leader of the Chamber’s block, Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE), is the most quoted for the report.

The CPI das Americanas was proposed by the leader of the Progressistas, federal deputy André Fufuca (MA), in early March. The company filed for bankruptcy in January after announcing an accounting shortfall of R$20 billion.

Gustinho Ribeiro (Republicans) should be the president of the Americanas.

The objective, according to the parliamentarian’s request, is to investigate “inconsistencies in the order of BRL 20 billion detected in accounting entries of the company Americanas SA carried out in the 2022 financial year”.

The CPIs of Americanas and MST are formed by 27 federal deputies and 27 substitutes. The Sportsbook will have 34 starters and an equal number of substitutes.
