Due to the crime of moral damage, former president Jair Bolsonaro was ordered to pay R$ 30 thousand reais to Senator Omar Azis (PSD-AM).
Omar Azis, who commanded the Covid CPI in 2021, took to court the situation in which, according to his words, he was slandered by then President Bolsonaro. The former president, who repeatedly made baseless comments to the senator, made claims that Omar was associated with the crime of pedophilia.
In response to the Justice, the defense responded that such statements were based on facts of public knowledge and therefore the action filed was not legitimate.
According to Judge Cássio André Borges dos Santos, from the 1st Special Civil Court of Amazonas, to offend is not freedom of expression. And since Omar was never formally accused of the aforementioned crime, Bolsonaro’s intention was to defame the senator’s image.
In the court decision, in addition to paying R$ 30,000, the former president was ordered to publish the sentence on his social networks, under penalty of a daily fine.
