When granting an interview after the first part of the testimony of Sergeant Luis Marcos dos Reis to the CPMI on January 8, last Thursday (24), the Commission’s rapporteur, Senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), said that she will ask for the break of military bank secrecy. Reis was part of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) Order Assistance team and was subordinate to Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid.
For the senator, the sergeant was unable to justify all the financial transactions identified in a report produced by the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf). According to Coaf, Reis would have moved around BRL 3.3 million in 15 months.
Among the transactions, transfers to Mauro Cid totaling 81,000 were identified. According to proofs presented by Reis to the Commission, the amounts refer to the sale of a car.
In his testimony, Reis also said that part of the money would have been obtained through a “consortium of friends”. The rapporteur classified the movement as “sharking”.
“There is a lot of financial movement that he even tried, at some point, to present some justifications, but which are actually not compatible. As a result, as we only have his RIF, we are also requesting the breach of bank secrecy”, said the senator.
Sergeant Luis Marcos dos Reis denied any irregular financial transactions.
Eliziane Gama’s expectation is that the request on breach of bank secrecy will be considered in the next deliberative session.
Despite the fact that the CPMI request cited financial transactions as justification for calling the sergeant, the hearing revolved around accusations about the military’s alleged involvement in the acts of vandalism on January 8.
Reis has been in prison since May of this year accused of participating in an alleged scheme to forge vaccine cards of former President Bolsonaro and people close to him.
