Casario will house the permanent exhibition of the life and work of poet and journalist Thiago de Mello

Manaus (AM) – Between cuts, saws, measurements and care, at number 66 on Rua Bernardo Ramos, the wooden floors, ceilings and frames of the future Casarão Thiago de Mello, work of the “ Nosso Centro ” program of the City of Manaus, are emerging.

The historic building is transforming once again into a classic 19th century house, in a property dating back to 1908 and classified as a unit of second degree preservation interest, according to decree 7,176/2004. The house housed the warehouse of the firm Sinfrônio & Cia.

On the floor, a composition of sucupira and laurel-puxuri boards is made, which form a layout and, below it, there is a type of subfloor, which served as a kind of lining, to protect against noise and sounds, giving more comfort to the environment. Restoration is only carried out in sections where the wood is very damaged, with no possibility of recovery due to the action of time, rain, humidity and the abandonment that the property has suffered for years.

The house is being renovated, with the ground floor and upper floor, to house the permanent exhibition of the life and work of the poet and journalist Thiago de Mello.

Mayor David Almeida has always highlighted that it is a management priority to rehabilitate the Historic Center of Manaus.

“These are public spaces that have been forgotten for many years and will be used again, like the old houses. We want to promote people’s connection with nature and the city, focusing on the development of tourism, leisure, sport and, above all, the population’s quality of life”,

And from the windows of the houses you can see the construction of the Lúcia Almeida viewpoint, on Avenida 7 de Setembro, which is progressing with works on several fronts, from the compacted embankment between the building and the sheet pilings to the beautiful and sinuous metal roof of the space, which also receives external plastering and painting services on the facades and the structure to receive the ceiling.

At the site, workers work on assembling metal stairs and electrical installations, in addition to the fire prevention and fighting structure, with pipes and hydrants.
In what was previously an abandoned area, today, one can already see the dynamics of a future pedestrian square, São Vicente Square, which has a settlement of São Thomé stones, an external street curb and gutter and sidewalk embankment and backfill. .

The construction site operates from Monday to Monday, without breaks or on holidays. Anyone who passes through the stretch no longer recognizes the old, previously abandoned area.

The total area of ​​the observation deck is 4,900 square meters and the building will be the first vertical multigenerational space in the capital.

All works are approved by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) Amazonas (process no. 01490.000103/2022-81).
