Mania to Read

The activity is open to the public and aimed at children of all ages

Manaus (AM) – The Mania de Ler Program promotes another edition, this time focusing on Amazonian legends, introducing children to stories such as “Curupira”, “Vitória Régia” and “Boto Cor de Rosa”. The event is free and takes place at Largo de São Sebastião, Sunday (29), at 5pm.

The objective of the initiative is to bring the habit of reading to children in a light and fun way, aiming to cultivate the practice from the earliest stages of life. The democratization of reading is also a topic worked on in the project, which makes the Volante Library available at all meetings, an adapted vehicle with a collection of more than 1,200 books available to the public.

In this edition, the program’s special guest is writer Adriana Barbosa, who will interact with children and tell and read stories about Amazonian legends. For Adriana, the initiative is essential to awaken children’s interest in books.

“I am always in these moments, telling or reading Amazonian stories, interacting with children. Children listen attentively to the stories. It’s interesting that, at the end of each story or reading, they look for new literature, they want to read other stories”,

says Adriana, who highlights the importance of actions such as Mania de ler.

“It would be so great if we had more spaces like these spread across the city. Many fathers and mothers cannot afford to purchase a book, because it is usually expensive. So, providing opportunities to read, to count, to listen to adventures is of great importance to encourage children to read in a pleasurable way”,

completed the writer.

The Mania de Ler Program is an initiative of the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, with the aim of bringing culture to the population of Manaus through reading.
