The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), stated that the federal government was silent in the demonstrations on January 8 that ended with acts of vandalism in the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília. According to Zema, the government’s security agencies would have turned a “blind eye” so that the worst would happen and Lula could emerge as a “victim of history”. The statements were made on Monday (16), during an interview with Rádio Gaúcha.

“It seems to me that there was a mistake by the radical right, which, remember, is a minority. So it’s a mere assumption. But the investigations are going to show whether that’s exactly what happened or not”, said the governor of Minas Gerais.

“There is this assumption, any conclusion now is premature, but the Institutional Security Office (GSI), which is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice, was previously notified of the demonstration and did not mobilize, did not make any contingency plan”, said Zema. The GSI denies that it failed and says that security was reinforced at the time of the acts.

The governor of Minas Gerais also stated that this type of violent manifestation is typical of the left and did not rule out the participation of infiltrators in the protests in Brasília. “It is a possibility (of infiltrators in the acts). This type of occurrence is much more typical and characteristic of the left, which has already carried out several depredations, including here in Minas Gerais in the past, at a cellulose factory, whose nursery was completely depredated by people from the left. It’s a much more characteristic modus operandi, but any conclusions now would be premature. But there is also that possibility and it should be investigated”, declared the governor.
