Zema rehearses a script to inherit the Bolsonarist vote in 2026 – 06/30/2023 – Panel

Allies of Romeu Zema (Novo) have already begun to think about the first steps towards a possible presidential candidacy in 2026. The governor of Minas Gerais is one of the favorites to take over the niche of the right-wing electorate, now that Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is ineligible.
At the beginning of the month, a mapping with voters from Minas Gerais was completed by the state directory of Novo, which had as one of its objectives to assess the electoral scenario for Zema.
The conclusion is that he is well accepted by a large portion of Bolsonarism, especially those whose strongest feeling is the rejection of the PT and Lula.
Likewise, there is acceptance in the name of the governor among those who voted for the PT in the past just for rejecting Bolsonaro, although minor. This share is estimated at 30%.
The survey also showed that today Zema would beat Lula among voters in Minas Gerais. The idea now is for Novo to replicate the mapping throughout Brazil.
Allies of the miner bet that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), will not risk a dispute for the Planalto if the Lula government is strong. The natural name would then become that of Zema, who, unlike his colleague from São Paulo, no longer has the possibility of being re-elected.
Even with Bolsonaro’s ineligibility, the governor of Minas Gerais does not intend to immediately assume the role of opposition leader to Lula. The order for now is to focus on creating brands for his management and not to argue with the president.
The strategy involves gradually assuming a greater place on the national scene. In the municipal election next year, for example, Zema should travel around the country campaigning for candidates supported by Novo.
