Zema exalts Temer and Moro in celebration of Inconfidência – 04/21/2023 – Politics

The Minas Conspiracy Medal delivery ceremony, led by the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), paid homage to former president Michel Temer (MDB), to Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR), in addition to the execution of the theme song for “Game of Thrones”, a series known for its plot involving political plots.

The delivery of honors in honor of Tiradentes, martyr of the Inconfidência Mineira, took place this Friday morning (21) in Ouro Preto (100 km from Belo Horizonte).

Potential candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026, Zema extolled the legacy of Michel Temer and classified the former president as “responsible for removing the specter of institutional rupture” in the country, who ascended to the post after the impeachment of then-president Dilma Rousseff (PT ).

The governor of Minas Gerais also hinted at President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) by defending measures approved in the Temer government, such as the Spending Ceiling PEC and the State-Owned Companies Law, which are being revised at the beginning of the PT’s management.

“We are attentive so that these achieved achievements do not suffer setbacks. […] If there is a need for adjustments, we must be careful that they are carried out without changing the central point, which is a charge to government officials to spend less than they collect,” he said.

The Expenditure Ceiling PEC should be replaced by the new fiscal framework proposed by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, considered more lenient in relation to increased spending in the social area. The bill is pending this week in the Chamber of Deputies.

Temer reciprocated the compliments and called Romeu Zema a “champion of correct administration”, when he praised the Minas Gerais governor’s management.

Zema also criticized the possibility of changes in the State-owned Law and took the opportunity to praise Sergio Moro for conducting Operation Lava Jato.

In addition to Temer and Moro, influential parliamentary medals were also awarded, such as the president of União Brasil, Luciano Bivar, the leader of the party in the Chamber, Elmar Nascimento, and the president of Podemos, Renata Abreu.

Even surrounded by allies, Zema had to listen to a tough speech by the mayor of Ouro Preto, Angelo Oswaldo (PV). He made demands on the state government, criticized the companies involved in the Mariana tragedy and said that Tiradentes, if he were alive, would lead the miners in the fight against the “dictatorship of the mining companies”.

The governor of Minas Gerais even heard shouts of “Zema out” at the end of the first act of the ceremony, which took place in Praça Tiradentes.

The ceremony began around 9:30 am, when Zema and Temer reviewed the troops of the Inconfidência Dragons, participated in the raising of the flag, placed flowers on the monument to the martyr of the Inconfidência Mineira.

They also watched a 21-gun salute at Praça Tiradentes and the arrival of the symbolic fire to the sound of the theme song from “Game of Thrones”.

Temer was awarded the Grande Collar da Inconfidência, the highest honor in the state of Minas Gerais. In all, 170 people were awarded medals by the government of Minas Gerais.

Elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022 with a liberal discourse focused on fiscal responsibility and cutting costs, Zema was critical of the spending of the previous government of PT Fernando Pimentel on events and awarding medals.

At the beginning of his tenure, he promised to keep only the Inconfidência Medal. Months later, however, he was awarded the Juscelino Kubitschek medal.

This week, Zema was involved in another controversy related to expenses. The Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais approved a bill that retroactively increases the governor’s salary by 258%. With the increase, the Chief Executive’s salary goes from R$ 10.5 thousand to R$ 37.5 thousand.
