Zé Trovão appoints former Embratur accused of sexual harassment – 02/20/2023 – Panel

Federal deputy Zé Trovão (PL-SC) appointed as parliamentary secretary of his office Marcus Thiago de Oliveira Figueiredo, who in 2020 was exonerated from his position as general coordinator of Information Technology at Embratur after being accused of harassing an employee of 21 years of the tourism agency.

At the beginning of 2023, the exoneration was converted into dismissal, a penalty that prohibits the occupation of federal public office for five years. Figueiredo’s defense appealed the decision.

Marcos Antônio Pereira Gomes, Zé Trovão, became known as the leader of truck drivers in 2021, when he was arrested after boosting requests for military intervention and impeachment of STF (Supreme Federal Court) ministers in the Bolsonarist acts of September 7.

A report from the Metrópoles website showed several WhatsApp messages from Figueiredo in which he makes sexual insinuations and invitations to the subordinate, who says she is committed and reveals discomfort with the obscene advances.

In these messages, Figueiredo says he has a desire for the employee, asks if she feels the same (she denies it) and reports erotic dreams about her.

Figueiredo’s defense, who now responds to an administrative process, said at the time that the conversations had been cut out of context and that the fact that the employee continued to work with him after the exchange of messages would show that the relationship between both were friendly.

The then president of Embratur, Gilson Machado Neto, who would later become Minister of Tourism in the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, said at the time that he had determined Figueiredo’s removal until the case was clarified.

Still in 2020, shortly after leaving Embratur, the former coordinator was received by Bolsonaro at the Planalto Palace as a member of the Médicos Pela Vida association, which encouraged the preventive use of medicines such as chloroquine against Covid-19, contrary to scientific consensus. , which says that they have no efficacy against the disease.

On January 27, 2023, the Internal Affairs General of the Union converted Figueiredo’s dismissal into a penalty of removal from office in commission. As it was characterized, this dismissal prohibits the public servant from holding a new federal public office for a period of five years.

Sought by the Panel, deputy Zé Trovão’s office did not send a response.

In a note, Figueiredo’s defense says that he filed an administrative appeal and that he remains confident in the dismissal of the disciplinary administrative process.
