Zanin releases PMDF competition with no limit on places for women

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Cristiano Zanin authorized this Thursday (26) the resumption of the competition for enlisted personnel of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF). The decision occurred after an agreement was signed during a conciliation hearing within the scope of Direct Unconstitutionality Action (ADI) 7433, filed by the PT.

“I note that the public interest is preserved, guaranteeing the continuity of the competition, without gender restrictions”, said Zanin when approving the agreement. In September, the minister suspended the competition, through an injunction, after the PT questioned the rule that limited the participation of women in the institution’s staff to 10%.

In the September decision, the minister considered that “the 10% percentage reserved for female candidates appears to contravene constitutional dictates regarding gender equality, with one of the fundamental objectives of the Federative Republic of Brazil being the promotion of the good of all, without prejudices based on origin, race, sex, color, age and any other forms of discrimination”. This week, following a similar understanding, Zanin suspended the public competition for the Rio de Janeiro Military Police.

This Thursday’s conciliation session was attended by representatives of the PT, the Federal District Attorney’s Office, the Federal District Military Police, the Federal Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice. The Attorney General’s Office was in favor of ratifying the agreement.

“I verify that the terms of the agreement concluded between the parties are in line with the provision that I granted as a precaution and meets the needs reported by the Federal District in the request for incidental protection, as it authorizes the continuation of the public competition for the Military Police of the Federal District”, wrote the minister.
