YouTube, Google and adult entertainment lead hits in Brazil

With the growth of internet access in Brazil, it is increasingly common for people to use the network to find out about news, shop online, pay bills, chat with friends and family through social networks and entertain themselves. While the choice of site for bank transactions is directly associated with the company offering the service, other sites stand out and become the number one option for Internet users due to their content and popularity, as is the case with the Google search engine, which is the site most accessed in Brazil.

In this context, the most accessed websites in the country gain great relevance, not only as sources of information, but also as entertainment, advertising and e-commerce platforms. In addition to Google, which leads the ranking, nine other sites are among the ten most popular in Brazil and the digital marketing company SEMrush maintains a list showing the total and monthly access numbers of each site. The list was compiled in an illustrated infographic that you can see below.

Youtube and Google among the first

Alphabet Inc’s dominance in the Brazilian market is due to its two largest sites, YouTube and Google. YouTube is the most accessed website in Brazil, with a margin of 3.9 billion monthly accesses.

Alphabet Inc acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion and since then has maintained a perfect balance between creating content by the public for the public. With 3.2 billion monthly visits, the search engine founded in 1998 is in second place overall in Brazil.

Adult entertainment sites surprise

Surprisingly, Xvideos occupies the 3rd position in the ranking and is the adult website most accessed by Brazilian users, with around 880 million monthly visits. Its competitor, Pornhub, ranks second among adult content sites, with 321 million monthly visits.

Interestingly, both Xvideos and Pornhub are ahead of major streaming sites such as the popular Netflix, and even ahead of Amazon Prime and HBO Max services. There is definitely a demand for adult content among Brazilian Internet users, especially after the 2020 pandemic.

Social networks are a fever among Brazilians

Currently, Facebook is the main social networking site in Brazil with 328 million users, followed by Twitter with 267 million users and Instagram with around 247 million users. These three sites occupy the sixth, eighth and seventh position, in that order, in popularity among Brazilian Internet users.

In total, there are over 171.5 million online users of social media in Brazil, representing approximately 79.9% of the population.

The Globo and UOL sites are the two most accessed news sites in Brazil. Ranked 4th in Brazil with 520 million hits per month, the Globo website is maintained by the country’s largest television station, Rede Globo, and offers news on various subjects, from politics and economics to culture and entertainment. With a team of renowned journalists and a history of important journalistic coverage, the Globo website is a reference in the Brazilian online news market.

Its biggest competitor, UOL, is just behind in 5th place with 468 million monthly hits. As one of the pioneering news sites in Brazil, UOL offers a variety of content options, including news, entertainment, sports and services such as e-mail and website hosting. In addition, it is one of the oldest websites in Brazil and has invested in technology and in a team of journalists to offer complete and updated news coverage in real time.

With potential growth is attributed to several factors, including the increasing use of mobile devices and the expansion of the middle class in Brazil. Google’s ad service closes the ranking with around 227 million monthly hits.
