Amapaense Heron Gael Moura will be representing Brazil, in the wrestling modality, at the ISF Gymnasiade SUB 15 2023, which takes place between August 19th and 27th, in Rio de Janeiro. The information was given on the social networks of the Amapaense Federation of School Sports (Fade).
“CBDE and CBW are pleased to invite the talented student-athlete Heron Gael Moura Figueira to represent Brazil in the 2nd edition of the ISF Gymnasiade SUB 15!… Let’s support and cheer for Heron Gael in yet another great achievement for school sports Brazilian!”wrote the Fade.
The man from Amapa has already competed in the Brazilian School Games (JEB’S) in 2022 and won a silver medal in the Greco-Roman style, in the 85kg category.
About the event
The Gymnasiade is the world’s biggest school sports competition and is organized by the ISF, together with the CBDE, with the support of SESC Rio; the Student Sports Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FEERJ); the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure; of Rio City Hall; and the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Sports.
The fact that the competition takes place in Rio de Janeiro breaks a 10-year fast without the capital of Rio de Janeiro hosting the event. The competitions will take place in the Olympic Park, where the Olympic Games took place in 2016. The Gymnasiade entered history as the biggest of all for the record number of disciplines, which in this edition will also feature the debut of Skate and Surf in the competition.
In all, there will be 22 disciplines disputed, three of which are parasports. Among them are Athletics, Adapted Athletics, Badminton, 3×3 Basketball, Boxing, Dance, Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Judo, Paralympic Judo, Fencing, Karate, Swimming, Paraswimming, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Skateboarding, Chess, Archery and Guidance.
Rio is expected to receive 4,000 participants, 2,100 of which are student-athletes aged between 13 and 15 from public or private schools. The event will have free admission.
