The world of MMA also showed solidarity and support for striker Vini Jr, after yet another regrettable case of racism that took place last weekend in Spain. During a game between Valencia and Real Madrid in Valencia, the player was called “monkey” by local fans.
Brazilians José Aldo, former UFC featherweight champion, and Alexandre Pantoja, the next challenger for the flyweight belt, expressed their support for the athlete from Real and the Brazilian national team.
Former fighter and current UFC commentator, Demian Maia, posted a reflection on the case on his Instagram and suggested that the debate on the subject take place so that cases of racism do not happen again. “What happened to Vini Jr is a realization that a part of society still does not understand that, unfortunately. The debate is important so that future generations do not perpetuate this type of behavior”, said the former athlete.
Other UFC fighters also commented on the case using the “Stories” tool on Instagram. These were the cases of Rafael dos Anjos, former lightweight champion, Antônio Cara de Sapato, who recently participated in the BBB 23 reality show, Virna Jandiroba and Maria Oliveira.
