World number one Iga Swiatek has been named WTA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, according to women’s tennis’ governing body.
Swiatek won the French Open (Roland Garros) for the third time, bringing her number of Grand Slams to four, and ended the year by winning her first WTA Finals title and regaining the top position in the rankings, after briefly losing it to Aryna Sabalenka.
The 22-year-old Polish player became the first tennis player to be named WTA Player of the Year in two consecutive seasons since Serena Williams from 2012 to 2015.
Elina Svitolina, who returned to tennis in April after a maternity break, took the Comeback of the Year award after reaching the Roland Garros quarter-finals and equaling her best Grand Slam result by reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals.
