Women’s Day: Janja says she suffers more attacks than Lula – 08/03/2023 – Politics

First lady Rosângela Silva, Janja, said this Wednesday (8) that she is the target of more attacks on social media than President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) himself and that she will be an “unconditional ally” in the fight against violence of gender.

“I have been the main target of lies, attacks on honor, threats on social media, even more than the President of the Republic. I know that many of you also go through this, the same and terrible experience of seeing your name, your body, your life exposed in a lying way”, he said.

“I will also be an unconditional ally in the actions of gender violence in politics. I think this is already very clear to everyone. The issue of violence against women is unacceptable. We need to say enough is enough: stop killing our women. None of us afraid, all of us in politics.”

Janja was one of those honored by the Senate on this International Women’s Day with the Bertha Lutz Diploma, given to people considered relevant in the defense of women’s rights.

The first lady also highlighted the record number of women at the Esplanada dos Ministérios (11 out of 37) and at the presidency of the two main public banks (Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal), but said that this is not “our finish line “.

The president of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), Rosa Weber, was also decorated. The minister is the only woman at the head of a branch of the Republic (Judiciary) and only the third minister in the entire history of the STF — with Cármen Lúcia and Ellen Gracie.

In her speech, Rosa highlighted that, “even in the forensic space, detected discriminatory conduct and acts are sure indications that even the Judiciary, in its fields of action, is immune to the culture of subjugation and disqualification of the feminine impregnated in Brazilian society “.

“Reaffirming the right of women to equal treatment and access to public decision-making spaces, as a way of fighting gender discrimination, is not a project that has been completed, but rather a project in permanent construction”, he said.

The minister also stated that, in a society marked by structural machismo, “decision-making structures were built so as not to consider women as relevant institutional political actors in the constitutional democratic project”.

“Equality was done in this way, and continues to be done, considering, forgive me, the female under-representation also in this parliament, from the male perspective regarding women”, he said.

She highlighted the importance of reflecting on the paths necessary for the effective fulfillment of the constitutional principle of gender equality and the review of practical norms and policies that reproduce inequality.

The Bertha Lutz diploma was also given in memorian to the journalist Glória Maria, who died on February 2, and to the indigenous Clara Filipa Camarão, who led a group of women against the Dutch invasions in Pernambuco in the 17th century.

The general director of the Senate, Ilana Trombka, the executive director of the Igarapé Institute, Ilona Szabó de Carvalho and the journalist Nilza Valéria Zacarias, one of the coordinators of the Front of Evangelicals for the Rule of Law.

Among other authorities, the session was accompanied by the second lady, Lu Alckmin, and by the president of the Workers’ Party, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR).

Also present were the Ministers of Planning, Simone Tebet (MDB), and of Health, Nísia Trindade — the first woman in history to head the ministry, one of the most important on the Esplanada.

The decoration has already been given to more than 150 people, such as former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) and councilwoman Marielle Franco, murdered in 2018 — and sister of the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco.

Bertha Lutz was one of the leaders of the movement for women to have the right to vote. The second woman to become a federal deputy, in 1936, Lutz was the first to join a Brazilian diplomatic delegation, in 1945.

The session was opened by the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). After the delivery of the first diplomas, Pacheco passed the presidency to the leader of the female group of the House, Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA).

The Senate, however, left women out of the board of directors in the last elections, which generated protests among the senators. In the Chamber, only federal deputy Maria do Rosário (PT-RS) won one of the seven titular vacancies.
