Women’s bench pressures Lira for parity project – 03/04/2023 – Panel

The women’s bench is articulating to include in the agenda of the plenary of the Chamber the bill that guarantees the salary parity between men and women in March. If approved, it goes straight to the sanction of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Deputy Simone Marquetto (MDB-SP) filed a request last Tuesday (28) with the Board of Directors for the inclusion of the proposal on the Agenda. In a meeting with the other deputies, although there are still some disagreements regarding the text, it was agreed that, together, they will plead with the President of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), attention to the project.

PL 1558/2009, authored by Deputy Marçal Filho (MDB-MS), establishes a fine for employers who pay more men in the same position and in the same function as women. The objective is to remove from paper a determination that already appears in article 7 of the Constitution, which prohibits “differences in wages, in the exercise of functions and in admission criteria based on sex, age, color or marital status”.

The text establishes a fine of five times the difference found, to be paid to the injured worker.

Marquetto is a co-religionist of the Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet, who embraced this flag as a candidate for the Presidency in 2022.

“We know that companies can add an extra function, a coordinator, the CEO, as ways of circumventing. Now that’s up to each one of us, to supervise. If there is a law, the woman who feels harmed have to look for their rights”, he says.

For the parliamentarian, it is important to take advantage of the month in which International Women’s Day is celebrated to give traction to the agenda.

On another front, the working group created in the Lula government to propose rules that prohibit the salary difference between men and women in the country who hold positions and carry out similar jobs has already forwarded the proposal to the legal sector of the Civil House.

As columnist Mônica Bergamo reported, it could be sent to the National Congress in March, when International Women’s Day is celebrated.
