With exhibitions and artistic activities, the 17th Spring of Museums in Manaus begins this Monday

The program begins at the City Museum, with the opening followed by the lecture “Quilombolas in the Amazon – Social, Economic and Historical Aspects”

Manaus (AM) – The City of Manaus, via the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), opens, this Monday, 18th, at 10 am, the 17th Spring of Museums with lectures and exhibitions, including a documentary on the subject, at the Museum of the City of Manaus (Muma), located on Rua Gabriel Salgado, in the historic center of the city.

The program begins at the City Museum, with the opening followed by the lecture “Quilombolas in the Amazon – Social, Economic and Historical Aspects”. The topic will be taught by professor Evandro Brandão Barbosa, dean of Ulbra/Manaus.

At the same time, the book exhibition “Memories and Democracy: LGBT+ People, Indigenous People and Quilombolas” will open at the João Bosco Pantoja library, located at Rua Monsenhor Coutinho, 529, Centro. It is worth mentioning that the exhibition will be available from the 18th to the 22nd of September, from 9am to 5pm.

For the CEO of Manauscult, Osvaldo Cardoso, discussing the themes proposed by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram) is increasingly necessary, since culture, art and history need to be told, valued and respected in all their shapes.

“Manauscult’s programming for the 17th Spring of Museums brings discussion and reflection on the themes addressed by Ibram, which are relevant themes and which increasingly need visibility, but, above all, respect and appreciation. The culture, history and memory of a people need to be kept alive and we, as public agents, need to move forward in building an egalitarian society, with public policies that can truly protect the civil rights of these communities”,

Cardoso highlighted.

For the Museum’s director, Leonardo Novellino, the 17th Museum Spring brings an inclusive proposal and Manaus could not be left out.

“The study is about democracy and original peoples, such as quilombolas, indigenous people and the LGBT+ population. So, Manaus, which is a plural city, could not be left out. It will be a week in which the city hall’s memory spaces and cultural spaces will open their doors to, through lectures and exhibitions, talk about this topic, providing education and rescuing the memory of these people, who contributed so much and who deserve their pride of place”,
