The Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate do not have activities registered in their official agendas only for the week of Carnival. Deputies and senators must have at least eleven days off before resuming work on February 28.

The last Chamber activity registered before the long holiday was a solemn, non-deliberative session, last Thursday (16). The Senate did its last activity on Wednesday (15). It was a meeting of the Temporary External Commission to monitor the situation of the Yanomami indigenous people.

In addition, the standing committees, which should be the main focus of Congress in the short term, still lack established leadership. They must be formed after the end of the holiday.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spends his holiday at the Aratu naval base, in Bahia. This is the place that Lula chose to spend several holidays during his first administrations. He considers ending the holiday earlier to visit Rio Grande do Sul, which is going through a drought process.
