This Thursday, the 1st, the governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, declared an emergency situation in Oiapoque, following a high increase in cases of dengue fever, a viral infection caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The signing of the decree, with reinforcement of the State Government’s integrated action, was accompanied by senator Davi Alcolumbre, who also works to guarantee assistance for the municipality’s population.

The City of Oiapoque requested support from the State due to the difficulties in caring for patients and combating dengue fever and other arboviruses, which are causing a great demand for health units in the municipality.

“We detected that the municipality had many problems, in addition to dengue fever, there was accumulated garbage, many holes in the city, so we decided to set up a task force to help for as long as necessary. There is reinforcement of exams, medicines, vaccines, backyard and street cleaning operations, weeding, asphalt recovery, and social assistance through food kits for indigenous people, farmers and also for patients who need it. We are doing our work, but it is important to emphasize that we count on the help of each resident to keep the city clean”, emphasized the governor.

In one year and one month of management, this is the 7th time that the governor has been to the northernmost municipality of the state

Decree No. 1224 provides for rapid relief and assistance responses, such as the delivery of food kits, in addition to other actions to minimize the impact of the disaster, developed using human, material and financial resources from state departments. The initiatives seek to act against the damage and worsening of the epidemiological situation to the population and the economy.

“The government is present with work focused on public health, because we know that there have been many cases of dengue, malaria and it is an emergency situation. The Federal Government is working on this decree in Brasília through minister Waldez Góes. We are here as supporters of this political decision, to work on a set of actions to improve the lives of people who live here in Oiapoque”, highlighted Senator Davi Alcolumbre.

Care and vaccination

The city of Oiapoque has a high incidence of dengue cases, the majority caused by the D3 virus (hemorrhagic dengue). One death has already been registered in Oiapoque, in the second half of January. The state has not recorded deaths from the disease since 2019

The State Department of Health (Sesa) will reinforce professionals in health units, sending nurses, technicians and biomedical professionals; and medicines to supply the pharmacy with analgesics, antipyretics, saline solution and other items. A room at the Oiapoque State Hospital was adapted to function as a patient observation room, with 10 beds.

Vaccination was intensified in the municipality by the Health Surveillance Superintendency (SVS). Doses of vaccines against Covid-19 and Influenza were made available, in addition to consultations and medical procedures.

Farmer Maria Dilva da Silva, 58 years old, was one of those immunized in the action. She took the 3rd dose against Covid-19, kept her card updated and strengthened her immunity against the virus.

“I saw the movement here and went in to take my 3rd dose. It is important and we have to keep our card up to date. Getting vaccinated means cooperating with everyone, even more so as I am a grandmother and love my grandchildren, and also because I sell farm products and need to be safe in contact with people”, commented the farmer from the Nova Esperança neighborhood, in Oiapoque.

*Fighting mosquitoes*

The concern becomes greater due to the rain, which can increase the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits the virus. Therefore, teams began directly combating Aedes aegypti breeding sites and also working to prevent outbreaks, from house to house. Also part of the action in the municipality are rubbish cleaning and asphalt recovery services.

The Oiapoque Health Department has 26 endemic disease agents. The Government of Amapá sent reinforcements of another 6, totaling 32 professionals.

The action carried out in the municipality is coordinated by the State Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense (Cedec), and public health services by Sesa.
