Wilson Lima reinforces measures taken by Amazonas in defense of the Manaus Free Trade Zone

Statement by the governor of Amazonas was made during an agenda in Brasilia this Tuesday, the day ZFM and Suframa complete 56 years

Manaus (AM) – Committed to ensuring the maintenance and advancement of the main economic model in Amazonas, Governor Wilson Lima guaranteed that the State will not give up the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) and listed some of the actions that his government has been carrying out to ensure the permanence of incentives taxes and the generation of employment and income for the people of Amazonas.

“We do not give up the Manaus Free Trade Zone. Today, the Free Trade Zone accounts for 70% of our state’s economy”, declared Governor Wilson Lima, in Brasília, during a press interview this Tuesday (28), the day on which the Superintendence of the Free Trade Zone of Manaus completed 56 years.

The governor also recalled that one of his acts in the first year he took over the Government of Amazonas, in 2019, was to create a working group formed by technicians from the state secretariats of Finance (Sefaz) and Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti) to work in favor of the model.

Wilson Lima even informed that this group is at the disposal of the bench of federal deputies and senators from Amazonas to maintain the defense of the Free Zone model against the Tax Reform.

Parallel to the Free Trade Zone, the governor of Amazonas has defended and encouraged new economic matrices, but he also highlighted that the ZFM model is the most successful regional development initiative in the country, especially in the social area because it generates more than 500 thousand direct jobs and indirect costs, in addition to tax revenue for the State and to contribute to the Amazon preserving 97% of its forest.

“That’s why we are always dialoguing and showing the importance of the Free Zone to whoever it is and, when necessary, resorting to Justice. In addition, to contribute to the legal security of this model, our government renewed state tax incentives until 2032 with the aim of maintaining investments by companies already installed and attracting new enterprises and, thus, generating more jobs”, reiterated Wilson Lima.

On February 28, 2023, Suframa and the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) model complete 56 years, a date that celebrates the publication of Decree Law No. approximately 500 companies installed, earning more than R$ 170 billion and generating around half a million direct, indirect and induced jobs.
