Wilson Lima begins resettlement of over 200 families from the Sharp Community and Manaus 2000

Manaus (AM) – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, began this Tuesday (28) the resettlement of over 200 families from the Sharp Community and Manaus 2000 who live in the area of ​​intervention of the Social and Environmental Program of Manaus and Interior (Prosamin+) and were affected by heavy rains last Saturday (25).

Initially, 142 families that were already in advance of resettlement processes are receiving housing solutions such as compensation and aid, in amounts that add up to more than R$ 8 million. The payment was made at the Amazonas Vasco Vasques Convention Center, in the south-central zone of Manaus.

The other 58 families, who are located in the most critical areas impacted by the rains, receive a Transitory Housing Grant in the amount of R$ 550 – with payment of the first installment already being made – until their resettlement process is completed definitively .

Of these 58 families, more than 40 have already received the first installment. The assistance for starting the payment of the scholarship for the other families will be done throughout this week.

“Whoever is leaving the swamp will have a new life, will have a new perspective on life. Now, you have no idea how much this fulfills me as a citizen, as a human being, in being an instrument to be able to help change people’s lives. And that is what makes sense in my life as governor, being able to work for those who need it the most”,

declared Wilson Lima.

In addition to the governor, municipal secretaries participated in the ceremony, such as the state superintendent of Housing, Jivago Afonso; deputies and state deputies such as Alessandra Campêlo, Abdala Fraxe, Joana D’arc, Maira Dias and Débora Menezes; and Councilors Diego Afonso and Glória Carrate.

Payments

With the 142 indemnities this Tuesday, the number of families in the two areas of Prosamin+ reaches 410 with the resettlement process completed by the Government of Amazonas.

Payments vary between indemnity, housing bonus, housing aid, transitional housing grant, housing unit or goodwill. The processes are being processed by the State Housing Superintendence (Suhab).

“I would like to thank the entire project team that is helping us out of this risk area. And now it’s just joy, I’m going to have a good house to live with my children”, reported shopkeeper Rosimeire dos Santos Padilha, who has lived at Sharp for 9 years and is among the 58 families that started to receive the Transitory Housing Grant.

Prosamin+

Executed by the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), the new Prosamin+ will urbanize an area of ​​340,000 m², along the Igarapé do Quarenta, in a stretch between Manaus 2000 avenue, in Japiim, and the Sharp Community, in the Armando neighborhood Mendes, from where a total of 2,383 families will be resettled, registered since 2020, when work began in the area.

In addition to promoting basic sanitation and urbanization where it operates, the program contributes to the removal of people from risk areas, preventing them from becoming vulnerable in the rainy season.

Heavy rains

Last Sunday, Wilson Lima, accompanying the Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, and the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, toured the Sharp community and other areas heavily affected by the storm that caused flooding in Manaus.

The ministers undertook the commitment, through the Federal Government, to provide support to bring humanitarian aid and contribute to the resettlement of families.

On Monday, the governor met with representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in Brasília (DF), to strengthen the partnership with the institution and accelerate the stages of Prosamin+. Wilson Lima was welcomed by Morgan Doyle, IDB representative in Brazil, and Gustavo Mendez, specialist in Water and Sanitation.

“Governor Wilson Lima demonstrated to the IDB the need to accelerate the payment process, the release of resources, the inclusion of more properties that were identified in risk areas due to heavy rains in recent days. Our forecast is that by the middle of the year all families residing in the risk area will be resettled and removed from these areas”, concluded the superintendent of Suhab Jivago Afonso.
