Brasilia DF) – On the agenda in Brasilia, Governor Wilson Lima asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, to set up a post for issuing visas for the United States in Amazonas. If the proposal is accepted, the station will be the first in the North region and the fifth in Brazil, which has the service in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco and Brasília.

The governor listed the reasons for which Amazonas is able to receive the unit. “Amazonas is a strategic state for travel to Central and North America, and the installation of a post will benefit the entire northern region of Brazil. In addition, the entire tourism production chain will benefit, moving the economy and promoting socioeconomic development of the population, ”he said.

Wilson Lima also highlighted the work to encourage local tourism that the Government of Amazonas has been doing, with the reduction of the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on fuel used in aviation, which encouraged the opening of new air destinations to from Manaus.

Of the 55,930 tourists who have already visited Amazonas in 2023, 24% are foreigners (13,487). Of this total, the main emitters were the United States (31.89%), followed by Germany (10.99%), Colombia (5.51%) and Switzerland (3.51%). Among the major domestic emitters are the states of São Paulo (25.62%), Pará (21.60%) and Roraima (12.5%).

During the meeting with the minister, Wilson Lima also made Amazonas available to host events such as preparatory meetings for the 30th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be based in the Brazilian Amazon, in November 2025. , in Belém (PA), which strengthens the request for the installation of a visa issuing post in the region.

Investments

The Government of Amazonas, through the State Tourism Company of Amazonas (Amazonastur), has boosted the tourism sector with works of tourist infrastructure, planning, expansion of the air network and training of tourism professionals in the last year. In 2022 alone, R$ 53.5 million were invested, generating positive impacts for the segment in the capital and in the interior of the State.

A survey by Amazonastur points out that tourism injected approximately R$ 170 million into the economy in the first four months of this year. The data also show an increase of 8.3% in tourist traffic in the state compared to the same period in 2022.

The expansion of the airline network was highlighted with articulations that resulted in direct connections with international destinations and 13 weekly flights to destinations in Panama, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Bogotá.

Regionally, there was also expansion with trips to Barcelos, Apuí, Eirunepé, Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Manicoré and Borba, which now have commercial flights connecting with the city of Manaus. The new flights are the result of an agreement signed between the Government of Amazonas and the company Azul, in the 2021/2022 biennium, for the maintenance of flights and the creation of new routes.
