This Tuesday (28), at 3 pm, TV Folha receives columnist Bernardo Guimarães. With a doctorate in economics from Yale, the professor at FGV will talk to special reporter Fernando Canzian about the economic policy of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and assess whether Lula will repeat the success or policies of former President Dilma.
During Dilma Rousseff’s government, the country suffered an economic slowdown and the tax benefits offered reduced revenues. State financed the Treasury’s expenses (“fiscal pedaling”) and in 2014, the country entered a recession, with accounts in the red.
Dilma was convicted of the crime of responsibility for “pedaladas” and was impeached in 2016.
At the start of his third term, Lula presented a package of investments and benefits to contain a slowdown in the country. The objective is to repeat an injection of money into the economy to stimulate consumption, as it did in previous governments.
The president also announced an increase in the minimum wage and the expansion of the Income Tax exemption.
