The bill that calls for the granting of amnesty to those convicted of electoral civil offenses or declared ineligible and that could benefit former president Jair Bolsonaro already has the support of at least 70 federal deputies, including parliamentarians from the base parties of the current government. The author of the proposal is federal deputy Ubiratan Sanderson, from the PL of Rio Grande do Sul, who in his justification argues that the project aims to correct “political and social distortions arising from decisions of the Electoral Court contrary to the suffrage of Brazilian citizens”. Discussion of the text, however, should be postponed after the parliamentary recess.
Last Friday (30), Bolsonaro was convicted by five votes to two by the Superior Electoral Court for abuse of power and misuse of purpose for holding a meeting with ambassadors in July last year, in which he questioned the credibility of electronic voting machines. The action had been proposed by the PDT last year. According to the decision, the former president is ineligible until 2030.
