Wheelchair basketball and other sports stir up sports programming on Macapá’s anniversary – News of Brazil

The inclusion and socialization of a person with a disability are challenges that find a strong ally in sport. After all, practicing sports provides physical advantages and also contact with other people, a socialization that brings enormous benefits to the mind and the emotional. And on the 265th anniversary of Macapá, celebrated on Saturday (4), among the sports, basketball on wheels was one of the main competitions that brought history of life, resilience and talent to the court.
Leonel Pinheiro, 34 years old, is one of those examples who found inspiration and resilience in basketball ten years ago. Today he is known as Captain Léo do Águia, a wheelchair parathlete who has participated in several important games, recently the team he plays for, Ecuador Rodas, took sixth place in a national competition in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
“Basketball is my overcoming. Sport is something sensational and inexplicable that changed my life. Above all comes God, which I am sure is what motivates not only me, but all these warriors who are here today. And this initiative by the Municipality of Macapá in valuing sport is yet another incentive for all of us”highlighted the player.
In addition to being one of the most popular sports in the world, basketball has advantages such as dynamism, stimulation of cognitive functions, increased sense of strategy, development of motor skills, creation of affective and social bonds.
The Ecuador Rodas basketball team was the winner of the game that took place on the court of the Wilson Malcher Municipal School at the end of the sports games on the anniversary of Macapá. The score that secured the victory closed at 28 to 16 against the opposing team.
Sport activities
Early in the morning of the Saturday of the city’s anniversary, the day began with a golden key. In the first rays of sunlight, more than 2,000 people participated in the Macapá 265 Years Street Race; there was also futlama, cycling, futsal, footvolley, sand volleyball, bench press, squat and handfiver handball.
Cycling
Cycling athletes started the competition at 3 pm, departing from the Central Market. About 150 people participated in the competition. In the Men’s Speed and Men’s MTB categories, first place went to Daniel Sousa It is Yeverson Guedes. In the female modality, who climbed on the podium was Brenda Simoes.
The 1st and 2nd place winners were awarded with trophies, while the 3rd, 4th and 5th won medals.
The student Yoná Nady Bittencourt, 18 years old, he says that 7 months ago he started to dedicate himself to cycling for health reasons, but in a short time he saw the sport transform his life. “Cycling started as a form of health treatment and became a passion in my life. It’s really cool to participate in programs like this one for the city’s anniversary, that more often they have competitions like this one”concluded, enthusiastically, the cyclist.
Yonah competed in the time of 30 minutes and reached the top five, winning 5th place in the competition.
Soccer
Arena do Muca was the stage for the Under 16 final that played in the Copa Cidade de Macapá, the game took place between the teams Máxima and Futuros Camisa Dez, teams that brought disciplined young talents to the field dedicated to winning.
The Maxima player is optimistic, Italo Caue, 16 years old, says that the team’s good performance during the championship is a sign of victory and winning the trophy. “We’ve had a good championship so far and, God willing, we’ll leave here with the trophy”stated Italo.
And at the end of the game, Máxima’s team won the Copa Cidade de Macapá champion’s trophy, the score that guaranteed the victory was 3×1. The winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were awarded with a trophy, gold, silver and bronze medals, plus cash prizes.
Skateboard
For the first time, officially as a sports program, skateboarding attracted fans of all ages, young people, adults and children were the most present audience.
The little one Livia Sena Botel, aged 10, came with her father to compete for the first time at the skate park. Determined, she says that her inspiration in the sport came from Rayssa Leal, the Skate Fairy who collects awards in the sport.
“I really like skateboarding and football, my dream is to be a professional in the sport like Rayssa Leal. And this program was really cool, a competition for us with many prizes is wonderful”she commented excitedly.
According to the coordinator of the Municipal Coordination of Sport and Leisure (Comel), Bruno Igreja, the sports programming was a success with high demand in all sports.
“We started and ended the program with a golden key. We had a lot of participation in the sports categories, in addition to the attendance of the public who came to watch and follow. The event was a success, I appreciate the support of everyone involved. The anniversary belongs to the city, but the residents were the ones who won the present”celebrated the coordinator.
The sports program was carried out with the support of the Municipal Coordination of Sports and Leisure (Comel) and organization of entities representing sports: Association of Physically Disabled People of Amapá (ADFAP), Footvolley Federation of the State of Amapá (Fafuv), Federation Amapaense de Futlama (Feafla), Group of Organized Cyclists (GCO), Amapaense Basketball Federation (FAB), Amapá Futsal League (LFA), Amapaense Federation of Grassroots Soccer Schools (FAEFB), Manga Rosa and Novo Vôlei Amapá.
