What schools and parents can do to increase safety

– With recent cases of attacks come concerns: what should schools do? How can parents help? 15 Minutes podcast episode talks about the topic
*) This episode of 15 Minutes podcast talks about a topic that, unfortunately, is increasingly in the news: violent attacks on schools.
Before the last case, which occurred in a day care center in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, and which shocked the whole country, a survey carried out by Unicamp collected 23 records of attacks with extreme violence in schools in Brazil since 2002. Another survey, carried out by the University of São Paulo (USP), shows the accelerated growth of attacks: there were more than ten in the last ten months alone.
The data are in an article on the subject, recently published in People’s Gazette by Lorena Nogarolli, who specializes in reputation and image crisis management in educational institutions.
With the cases come concerns: what should schools do? What should parents do? And how to prevent the climate of panic from spreading?
These are the themes of this conversation between journalist Márcio Miranda and Fernando Brafmann. He has 30 years of experience in security, protecting people and facilities, anti-terrorism, intelligence and crisis management.
Brafmann is also director of the MAGAV group, responsible for the division of protection of educational establishments, and security advisor for several schools.
