Influencer and activist Ivan Baron wrote on Twitter: “Less than 24 hours into the program and Maycon has already been trained twice with Vinicius, and regardless of whether he bothers you or not, this type of question should not be asked to an amputee if you don’t have the minimum of intimacy”. ▶️ What is ableism? According to the Ministry of Citizenship, examples of ableism are: inappropriate expressions; judgmental looks; invasion of privacy; and Absence of people with disabilities in various spaces. Examples of ableism in everyday life In an interview with g1, consultant Julia Drezza, who is also a person with a disability, cites practical examples of ableist attitudes in everyday life: “Communicating only with the companion of a person with a disability, or thinking that the person is not capable of making decisions for themselves, thinking that the person cannot date, have a career”. According to her, who works at Mais Diversidade, a diversity and inclusion consultancy, the situations above are examples of behavioral barriers that hinder the “existence of quality for people with disabilities”. “Very clearly, you could see the embarrassment on Vinicius’ face. Obviously, he must not have been feeling psychologically safe. Did the people around him stop to think about this?”, asks Julia Drezza. “People with disabilities are part of a very relevant group in society, which represents 9% of the population of Brazil. The very expression ‘disability’ refers to what is not efficient. But, in fact, what is not efficient? The person or the space that welcomes them?
