The acting president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), said this Tuesday (25) that the Institutional Security Office (GSI) should not be extinguished. The statement comes amid questions about the body’s performance during acts of vandalism. Last week, CNN Brasil released images showing the then GSI minister, General Gonçalves Dias, inside the Planalto during the invasion and depredation of the Executive headquarters.

Dias resigned, but part of the government defends the demilitarization of the body. “We should not do away with an organ because there was a mistake. What needs to be investigated and held accountable”, said Alckmin. The vice-president pointed out that the future of the GSI must be defined after the return of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) from his trip to Portugal and Spain. Alckmin participated in the opening of the 22nd March of Municipal Legislatives, an event that brings together councilors from all over Brazil.
