We may not apply sanctions to Marcos Do Val – 02/10/2023 – Panel

Podemos, the party to which Senator Marcos do Val (ES) is affiliated, should not apply sanctions to the parliamentarian. Internally, although the behavior has been disapproved, the assessment is that there are already ongoing investigations in court for which he will have to respond.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), determined the opening of a procedure to investigate suspected crimes of false testimony, slanderous denunciation and coercion against him.
Initially, the senator made a live claiming that he was coerced by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to carry out a coup, then attributed the plan to former deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ). On Tuesday (7) he told activist Ronny Teles that he had “manipulated the national news”. The statement was revealed by the newspaper O Globo.
Leaders of Podemos rule out calling the party’s Ethics Council against the senator. For him to respond by procedure, it would be necessary for an affiliate to file a representation, but the complaints are being considered so “without foot, nor head”, that the perception is that it would not be worth the wear and tear.
In case of sanction, the last resort would be expulsion from the party, as happened with former state deputy Arthur do Val, Mamãe Falei. But Podemos has shrunk in the last elections. In the Chamber, it fell from 17 to 12 deputies; in the Senate, fell from eight to four, after defections
