Waldez Góes receives priority demands from São Paulo, Pará, Acre and Rio Grande do Sul – News of Brazil

The Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, former governor of Amapá, received, this Tuesday (17), parliamentarians and managers from the states of São Paulo, Pará, Acre and Rio Grande do Sul. The purpose of the meetings was to learn about the priority demands of these locations, especially in the areas of water security and civil defense and protection.
In the first agenda of the day, Waldez Góes received federal deputy Dr. Sinval Malheiros (Podemos-SP), who filed claims relating to the state of São Paulo. The parliamentarian also invited the minister to learn about projects in the state related to regional development.
During the meeting, Góes highlighted the importance of partnership with the National Congress to ensure effective policies for the Brazilian states. “I know how important it is, for good public policy, to listen well to parliament, with its differences, concepts and priorities, as they are representing segments of society”, commented the minister.
Another agenda was with federal deputy Silas Câmara (Republicanos/AM) and the presidents of the Land Institute of Acre, Gabriela Câmara, and of the Association of the Rural Area of Alto Acre, Cristian Moraes (photo on the right). The theme of the meeting was land regularization in the state.
“The importance of this meeting lies in the fact that Acre borders other countries and has a very complex geographical issue to carry out land regularization. From when we conquer this objective, we will be able to make a development policy”, emphasized Gabriela Câmara.
Waldez Góes also received a visit from the mayor of Santarém (PA), Francisco Nélio Aguiar da Silva, to talk about prevention works in the city. The minister heard the demands presented by the mayor, who commented on the importance of preventive actions that were carried out in the city’s streets in order to contain the floods that affected the region and affected local businesses.
Another engagement was with representatives of farmers’ organizations in Rio Grande do Sul. During the meeting, demands were presented to help mitigate the effects of the drought in the state. At the moment, 21 cities in Rio Grande do Sul have federal recognition of an emergency situation in force.
Among the requests are supply actions, such as the supply of water for immediate consumption by the population, and the distribution of basic food baskets to guarantee food security, on an emergency basis, in addition to the implementation of structuring actions to avoid further shortages, such as the installation cisterns, small dams and artesian wells.
“There is a drought problem in Rio Grande do Sul. We have to have public policies that serve the population and that can solve possible problems in the long term”, said the minister.
In the last agenda of the day, minister Waldez Góes received the assistant representative for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) program in Brazil, Gustavo Chianca. During the meeting, a partnership was discussed with the United Nations body in the integrated management, between Brazil and Uruguay, of the water resources of Lagoa Mirim and the Lagoas Costeiras Basin, the Brazilian part of which is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
“We have a very important mission in the macro context of public policies, which is to integrate this country that has a continental dimension, always seeking to reduce regional inequalities”, highlighted minister Waldez Góes. “And these partnerships, whether national or international, are decisive for us to move in that direction. And FAO, a renowned institution, partner, friend and defender of food security, water security, is fundamental in this partnership”, emphasized.
