José da Silva Catalão, a waiter who has already served Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Dilma Rousseff (PT), returned to the government.
The nomination for the position of assistant in Lula’s personal office was published this Wednesday (18) in the Official Gazette and is signed by the Minister of Civil House, Rui Costa.
Catalão was intimate with President Lula during his second term in Planalto. He also served Dilma, but the relationship with the former president was more formal.
The waiter was fired in May 2016 by the team of then interim president Michel Temer (MDB). He was not a public servant and earned R$3,870 at the time.
Before working in Planalto, Catalão was an army officer.
In 2016, Catalão even asked to be relocated to another area of the Palace upon learning of the dismissal, but was unable to convince Temer’s team. As shown to Sheetthere was a suspicion that he would pass on information to Dilma’s team, removed after opening the impeachment process.
The waiter always denied having a connection with the PT, despite the good relationship he had with Lula.
Catalão hid the little finger of his left hand, a joke to imitate the petista, when serving the president. Lula laughed and always let out a curse word.
With Dilma, the relationship was more formal and he was the target of scolding from the then president — he was scolded when she found a cheese missing from her private fridge. Upon leaving Planalto, however, the petista regretted not being able to take Catalão along.
