Of course, Tax Reform is not the only subject to move national politics: the agenda of the so-called “Superweek in Congress” also includes other topics related to the Economy, such as the bill for the casting vote of the Board of Directors of Fiscal Resources (Carf) and the completion of the new Fiscal Framework. But it is the discussion around the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the Tax Reform that has focused the attention of the Planalto, parliamentarians, governors, mayors and representatives of different sectors such as agribusiness, services and commerce, just to name a few.
Just this week, we reported here on 15 Minutes the information that perhaps the federal government would use the release of parliamentary amendments to gain support in the Chamber of Deputies and approve the Reform. This was exactly the solution chosen by the Lula government to have the support of the deputies.
According to Siga Brasil, the Senate’s website on the Union’s Budget, around BRL 2.1 billion were invested in parliamentary amendments at the beginning of the week, which is a record amount, and now there are those who say that the strategy is a way to buy the votes needed to pass the text.
