People who intend to vote in the 2024 Municipal Elections have four months to regularize their title or issue the first copy of the document. The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has periodically warned voters not to leave the resolution of disputes with the Electoral Court until the last minute, in order to be able to exercise their right to vote next year.
Voter registration is closed only in election years so that the Electoral Court can organize voting based on the determined number of voters eligible to vote. For this reason, the legislation determines that no application for electoral registration or transfer is received within 150 days prior to the date of the election (article 91 of the Elections Law – Law nº 9,504/1997).
Therefore, registration for this year’s elections will close after May 8, since the first round of the election will be on October 6, 2024 (article 77 of the Federal Constitution).
The same period applies to those who are in an irregular situation due to having stopped voting or justifying their absence from the polls in the last three elections, as well as for those who have changed cities and need to request a transfer of electoral domicile.
Optional vote
Voters aged 15 and who will turn 16 by the day of the election can also register. For voters aged 16 and 17, voting is optional.
Positions in dispute
The next elections will be to choose candidates for the positions of mayor, vice-mayor and councilor. The first round will be on October 6, 2024. The second round, where necessary, to choose the mayor in municipalities with more than 200 thousand voters, will take place on October 27.

If there are debts from previous elections, the voter must pay them off before making the request.
