Volleyball: Cruzeiro wins Superliga with Wallace on court – 04/30/2023 – Sport

Sada Cruzeiro beat rival Minas by 3 sets to 0 (25/18, 25/19 and 25/20) and won its eighth title of the Men’s Volleyball Super League this Sunday (30).

Until then, the two teams shared the top of the national championship with seven trophies each. The Cruzeirense López was elected MVP of the Superliga, in addition to the best player on the court in the decision and the best pointer of the tournament.

Played in São José dos Campos (SP), the match had the participation of Wallace, coming from the bench. He scored the point of Cruzeiro’s title. The opposite was suspended by the Ethics Committee of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) for 90 days on February 3rd.

The team from Minas Gerais, however, obtained an injunction from the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) interrupting the player’s suspension on April 12. Even so, the athlete was not on the court in the two semifinal matches, against São José, on April 19 and 22.

Due to the absence of a uniform chain of decisions in the country’s sports courts, the punishment or not of the opposite fell into legal limbo. There were questions about the validity of the STJD injunction, since the COB is the highest body for Olympic sports in Brazil.

At the end of January, Wallace posted a photo on his Instagram account. He was in a shooting club, with a gun in his hand and opened the application’s question box to answer questions from his followers. One of them questioned whether he would use that revolver to shoot the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Wallace responded with the opening poll questioning who would do that.

The assessment among directors, after the injunction was granted, was that everything would be resolved smoothly if the matter were in the hands of the Committee’s directors, but the Ethics Council that suspended Wallace is an independent body and threatens to increase the punishment, in case the athlete returns to work before the deadline.

If taken forward, the case would have to be resolved by the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport), headquartered in Switzerland. The decision could take months.

This Sunday’s game was also marked by the farewells of the setter William, 43, gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and the opposite Leandro Vissoto, 40.

“I never dreamed of experiencing this with my whole family here. Of course I wanted to win. Cruzeiro’s team is a machine.

Thrilled, William also thanked the support of the fans and the family present in São José after the decision. “It’s incredible to be here playing in a final, [com] that many people. I’ve never received so many messages. [Quero] thank everyone.”
