Volkswagen announced the suspension of employment contracts for 800 metallurgists at its plant in Taubaté (SP) as of August 1 for a period of two to five months, the local union said on Monday (17).
According to the Metalworkers Union of Taubaté, the suspension was informed by the automaker to adjust production to the market, despite the sector having recently benefited from the federal government’s incentive for the purchase of new cars.
The automaker even informed that it would no longer adopt suspension of employment contracts this year, after government encouragement.m
The company employs 1,300 workers at the factory in Taubaté, which produces the Polo Track model, the union said.
“Volkswagen do Brasil informs that the Taubaté factory has filed a layoff for a production shift, starting on August 1, initially lasting 2 months,” said the automaker in a press release without giving further details.
According to the company, the flexibility tool is provided for in a collective agreement signed between the union and employees of the automaker.
The Polo accumulates sales of 37.7 thousand units from January to the end of June, in the second position in the automobile segment, according to data from the association of dealers, Fenabrave. The model is the second best-selling model for the year in the segment, behind General Motors’ Onix, which had 44,100 units registered.
