Vinícola Urbana produces wines in Pinheiros, in SP – 03/08/2024 – Bars and nightlife

After producing beers, Pinheiros now also produces wines. Located in the western region of São Paulo, Vinícola Urbana still serves and sells its own labels to customers.

The space is open to the public from Wednesday to Saturday. Here, visitors can try wines by the glass and, of course, order a whole bottle.

Surrounded by buildings but maintaining a backyard atmosphere, the winery can accommodate around 80 people. The central part of the property, an uncovered area with a table and plants, is the space that most attracts customers on sunny days or warm nights.

In the back there is wine production. Visitors can only enter accompanied by the winemaker or authorized staff. But anyone who wants can watch, sitting at tables in front.

There are the aluminum tanks in which the wine ferments, the bottling machines, the de-stemming machine (which separates the grapes from the branches and stems of the bunch), the testing laboratory and the pressing machine. It is also in this space that the wines are stored and the grapes are received to begin production.

For now, Vinícola Urbana buys grapes from vineyards in Petrolina (PE) and Rio Grande do Sul. Pilar wine, the company’s biggest bet, uses strains produced in a vineyard in Cunha (SP), the only one that belongs to winery.

“It took me a while to find a place with the conditions I imagined to make this wine. I started researching in the Mantiqueira mountains and found land in Cunha that has the same altitude and thermal range as that region”, says Daniel Colli, founder of Vinícola Urbana.

The vineyard in Cunha has planted varieties of pinot noir, sauvignon blanc and alvarinho. The first variety is used only for the production of Pilar Red wine and the other two form the blend for Pilar White, fermented together in French oak barrels at the winery in Pinheiros.

The strains coming from the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and the Northeast are used to produce a white petnat (sparkling wine made using the ancestral method). Vinícola Urbana also produces a white wine with viognier from Petrolina and a red with tannat from Serra Gaúcha.

The Vinícola Urbana project began in 2018 and the first harvest was bottled in 2023. In the middle of last year, the space started opening doors to friends, in a testing phase. The operation effectively began in January.

The proposal, according to Colli, is to create a more relaxed environment to demystify the idea that the consumer needs to be a great connoisseur to drink wine.

The price of bottles varies between R$90 and R$200. Those who prefer to drink by the glass have options from
from R$ 19. In addition to wines, visitors have the option of beer and cider — both are also produced in-house.

Those who choose to stay to discover the winery’s space have, on the food menu, suggestions for cheese and
of starters with salmon.

“Being in an urban winery makes it easier to think about all these products,” says Colli.
Other drinks, such as clericot and sangrias, are among the new proposals that could be added to the menu. Furthermore, Colli states that he is considering making changes to the wines that are served, as production is recent and the labels are constantly being improved.
