Football player Vinicius Junior and STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister André Mendonça are among the personalities nominated to receive the Legislative Merit medal from the Chamber this year.
The award is aimed at authorities and personalities, as well as entities, campaigns and movements that have provided relevant services to the Legislature or to Brazil.
Each party leader can make a nomination, while members of the House’s board of directors can suggest two names each.
The athlete was nominated by PL leader, Altineu Côrtes (RJ). In his justification, the parliamentarian says that the player has become a “global symbol in the fight against racism”.
Mendonça was nominated by deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), second vice-president of the Chamber.
“André Mendonça’s nomination is for his contributions to Brazilian democracy as a member of the AGU, Minister of Justice and now as a member of the STF, preventing progressive agendas that do not express the will of the majority of Brazilians from advancing in the STF”, says Sóstenes to the Panel.
The parliamentarian also named the Navy soldier Márcio Peixoto Ferreira.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 6th.
