Vinícius Júnior used his social networks, this Wednesday (8), to show solidarity with Yago Mateus, basketball player for the Brazilian national team.
The point guard of the Brazilian national team was the victim of racism during the match between Ratiopharm Ulm and Club Joventut Badalona, for the Eurocopa, in Spain.
“Start punishing these people or we’ll go back to the way it was before. But while they don’t do anything, we’ll continue to fight for ours. Strength my brother!”, wrote Vinícius Jr.
Yago, who plays for Ratiopharm, in Germany, was harassed by a Club Joventut Badalona fan. The woman appears shouting “mono”, monkey in Spanish, towards the athlete.
Badalona published a note stating that it repudiates what happened. The club forwarded the images to the authorities so that they can be analyzed.
The Brazilian commented that he did not hear the offenses during the game. “Thank God I didn’t hear it at the time because I don’t know what my reaction would be. (…) It’s revolting and sad to see this happen, it’s a recurring thing in sport, in today’s world, and we’re still a long way from awareness and an understanding that there is no room for this kind of attitude,” he said in a statement.
