Video: GSI Major interacts with scammers on Lula’s floor – 04/24/2023 – Politics

Major José Eduardo Natale de Paula Pereira, who was the security coordinator for the facilities at the Planalto Palace on the day of the coup invasions on January 8, was seen in a half-hour break interacting with demonstrators on the floor of the presidential office.

Pereira appears in the camera footage from the 3rd floor of Planalto talking and giving water to the vandals. At other times, he circulates on the phone when they had already invaded rooms on the presidential floor and even witnesses a scammer stealing a fire extinguisher.

The military was alone most of the time. The secrecy of the images was overthrown last Friday (21) by the Minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes. The major had been with the GSI since 2020 and was dismissed on February 3, less than a month after the coup attacks.

The first time he appears on camera is when he enters a room at 3:58 pm and gives water to the demonstrators, a few meters from the room where he dispatches the Chief Executive.

Pereira passes in front of the office of the first lady, Rosângela da Silva, Janja, which had already been invaded by coup plotters. Behind him, at least seven vandals follow to an area where there are bathrooms.

The major is also seen walking through the corridors of the presidential office, on the phone. He, once again, passes by the demonstrators, but does not remove them from the scene.

Afterwards, around 4:28 pm, it is possible to see the major crossing the corridors of the presidential anteroom with coup plotters, signaling them to leave by the stairs.

One of them tries to get past him to access another area of ​​that floor, which was closed by a glass door. The major even exchanges pushes with the coup plotter, but is unable to prevent him from entering the space that is reserved for close advisors to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Shortly afterwards, the scammer returns to the same place and joins the group that descends the stairs. Pereira then closes the glass door. In the same minute, another vandal takes the second fire extinguisher (the first had already been taken) in front of the major, who also does not stop him.

Quickly, everyone leaves the place and the then GSI minister, General Gonçalves Dias, better known as GDias, appears for the first time on the president’s floor.

He uses a metal structure and tape to bar access to the fourth floor via the stairs, then checks that Lula’s office doors are closed.

Finding protesters further on the presidential floor, the general points to them to leave the place, which they do. To CNN Brasil, after the broadcaster released images of him giving water to the demonstrators, the major said he acted to “contain damage”.

“It was to do damage containment, to prevent people from entering the president’s office, which would be the last line,” he said. According to the report, he would have said that he had not yet made arrests precisely because he was alone in front of the vandals.

Protesters circulate for just over an hour in the most restricted area of ​​the presidential floor, until they are completely removed from the site. It all took place between 3:20 pm and about 4:31 pm.

Stun bombs and tear gas were used against the vandals. Major Pereira appears in the images from the underground cameras accompanied by another GSI employee and guiding the entry of the PM-DF shock battalion, at around 5 pm, at the Planalto Palace.

The images reveal low security personnel on the day of the invasion.

A member of the GSI who had a weapon (it is not possible to know whether it is lethal or a taser), and two wearing shields and helmets, appear tense in the images going down the stairs from the presidential floor to the 2nd floor, where most of them were concentrated.

Other members of the GSI and the police begin to appear more in the restricted area of ​​the presidential floor around 4:20 pm.

According to government officials who accompanied the operation that Sunday, there was an initial order to order the vandals to leave the Planalto. It is not known, however, where the order came from.

When the then GSI minister arrives, he orders the battalion to enter the place, take all the coup plotters to the 2nd floor, from where they would be arrested.

The analysis of the Planalto closed circuit videos shows that, in addition to the low number of police, there were signs of lack of command and disorientation. They stayed for over an hour, at least, without backup.

Part of the images were initially released by CNN Brasil last week. The videos led to the downfall of GDias, the first resignation of the Lula government 3. The general had to testify to the PF last Friday, as did all the GSI employees who appear in the images.

The general told the police that there had been a general “blackout” of the intelligence system in the January 8 crisis. He also said he did not know how to inform what was the risk classification given by the authorities for the day of the attacks.

“Asked if the declarant understands whether there was an intelligence blackout, he replied that he believes that there was a general ‘blackout’ in the system due to the lack of information for decision-making”, says the report of his testimony. The general’s statement was obtained by Sheet.

Despite the attitude considered by Lula’s assistants as being lenient by members of the GSI who circulated on the day of the invasion, the trigger for the general’s downfall was the fact that he did not show the images from the cameras of the presidential office after the attacks, as demanded by the agent.

He would have been informed, by members of the GSI, that there were no images of the place. One of the cameras, in front of Janja’s office, for example, was covered for hours. But it is possible to see the arrival of vandals to the place.
