The teenager had a stroke in the hospital at the age of 13 during a hospitalization full of complications due to appendicitis surgery. The articulated structure helps with the patient’s movement, making the task easier not only because it alleviates the weight of gravity, but also because it has technology to even stimulate cognition – the planning of movements – and even distracts the mind using electronic games. “Everything he does with the equipment, he has a response on the screen. So, he has a proposal for game activities to work on the movements”, explains occupational therapist Tatiana Amodeo Tuacek. It’s quite tiring, but Enzo says that video game-like rehabilitation helps. “It becomes less boring. Another robot I make is not one of those games like this, more elaborate. It’s just a little ball, it keeps following it. Then I get sleepy”, says the teenager. So where was this going? We had no idea.” Enzo’s first achievement was walking while still in the hospital. “He was in the hospital, of course, still supporting. But the movement of his feathers, according to the doctors, and they got it right, made it clear that this was possible”, adds Felipe. The young man’s evolution with the help of technology is the pride of his aunt Taisa Monteiro, who has been with her nephew since the beginning of treatment: “It’s not easy having to learn to live again, there are a lot of changes, right? But I never saw him discouraged,” she says. After a little over two years of rehabilitation, he still fulfilled his dream of seeing snow and went snowboarding. “It was a really good feeling. The wind hits my face, I manage to stand on top of the snow. It was really cool”, he says. Enzo realized his dream of seeing snow after two years of recovery.
