Verdão faces Tricolor in the first Paulistão derby

Palmeiras opponent is precisely the only one who defeated him in 2022
Paulistão will have its first classic of 2023 this Sunday (22), at 3 pm, at Allianz Parque. Palmeiras faces the only one who managed to extract points from the team in 2022: São Paulo, even with the team having an 80% advantage against rivals in the season.
Last year, Alviverde faced 13 matches against rivals, and had an incredible ten victories, being declared the “King of the classics” in São Paulo. That is, in just three duels, Abel Ferreira’s team left the field without winning the three points. In matches without wins, Palmeiras lost two and drew one. All the “stumbles” were in front of Tricolor, which actually managed to hit head-on.
The defeats against São Paulo took place in the first leg of the Paulistão final and in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil, both at Morumbi. In the state, Verdão managed to reverse the situation at home and won the title. In the national tournament, however, despite Palmeir’s victory in normal time, Rogério Ceni’s team won on penalties and eliminated the rival at Allianz Parque. The tie was 0-0 in the final stretch of the Brasileirão, also held at the Alviverde stadium.
Palmeiras played seven classics against São Paulo in 2022 and won four of them: two in Morumbi (Paulistão and Brasileirão group stage) and two in Allianz Parque (Paulistão final and Copa do Brasil round of 16). With that, Abel Ferreira’s team had a 61.9% success rate against Tricolor, which is a good number, but lower than the other classics.
Against Corinthians and Santos, Verdão had 100% success. There were three games against Timão and three wins, as well as three games against Peixe and three wins. That is, no chances for these two rivals, showing Palmeiras power in home and away games.
