Valdemar: Bolsonaro and Michelle will make caravans around Brazil – 03/01/2023 – Politics

The president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, said this Wednesday (1st) that former president Jair Bolsonaro and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro should participate in caravans through Brazil later this semester.

The idea, according to Valdemar, is for them to make separate trips around the country, with Michelle focusing on women’s participation in politics and Bolsonaro on dialogue with mayors and regional leaders. He foresees that these caravans could start between May and June of this year.

Valdemar also stated that this should happen already with an eye on the 2024 municipal elections – the party intends to elect a thousand mayors.

“We want Bolsonaro to visit our cities. We have observed that he has not lost prestige and he will be a very important person in the municipal elections next year. You can be sure that we will have a brutal growth of mayors and councilors “, said Valdemar when leaving a meeting with the party’s bench in the Chamber this Wednesday.

He also said that the party already has a poll underway to measure the former chief executive’s popularity.

The president of the PL did not confirm an exact date for Bolsonaro’s return to Brazil, but stated that there is an expectation for this to occur by April.

“Calmly, receiving people here, holding a meeting with the people, honoring us. If he comes to a meeting like that and we let him speak last, no deputy would leave here. He has prestige”, he continued.

Bolsonaro traveled to the United States in the last days of his term and has not yet returned, ignoring the democratic rite of symbolically handing over the office to his successor, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Michelle, national president of PL Mulher, will organize caravans with the aim of increasing women’s participation in politics, according to the party leader. “To bring in the women. You see that the PT does this well, they created more women than we did. We created many more deputies and they created many more women than we did.”

Valdemar said that Michelle will meet with the state presidents of the PL to deal with the activities and that the former first lady has the potential to gather crowds. “She has been taking a lot of people to the places where she has been. Too bad she joined the campaign late and couldn’t help, that didn’t have as much effect because she joined too late. But she will get organized with the state presidents and we will work on that. “
