USA: new logo at Twitter headquarters annoys neighbors – 07/31/2023 – Tech

A giant, glowing X marks the spot in San Francisco where Elon Musk says he plans to keep his company, the social network X, formerly known as Twitter. However, municipal authorities and residents are not satisfied with the new sign at the headquarters of the social network.
On Friday (29), the company erected an “X” logo on the roof of the headquarters on Market Street, to the chagrin of neighbors who complained about the intrusive lights and the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, which said it was evaluating the structure.
The move came after a post by Musk announcing that the newly named company would remain a California city, despite what he called a recent “spiral of doom” with one company after another exiting or leaving the region.
The billionaire, who is also CEO of electric car maker Tesla, moved the automaker’s headquarters from California to Texas in 2021. Keeping X in San Francisco could be a good sign for a city that has struggled to recover from the losses of tourism and business suffered during the pandemic.
The inner-city region is reeling from downsizing in the tech sector, the departure of major retailers and a drop in tourism. Traffic has decreased as more people work from home.
“Beautiful San Francisco, though others may forsake it, we will always be your friends,” Musk wrote.
However, not all townspeople are interested in friendship with the billionaire. Over the weekend, locals took video of the giant X glowing, pulsing and strobe, and some criticized its intrusive lights.
“I am simply amazed at the blatant lack of consideration for anyone,” wrote @DollyMarlowe on the billionaire’s social media account.
The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, meanwhile, began an inspection of the structure, saying it could be violating city rules.
A department inspector said in a written report that company representatives had denied access to the building’s roof for inspection of the sign twice. He noted that a company representative said the plate was temporary.
